early November, GSA-Qld will be having our medals night on the 11th of
November, with John Draper winning the Dorothy Hill Medal, and Friedrich von
Gnielinski winning the Neville Stevens Medal.
Following the presentation will be a talk by John Draper on
geosequestration. The Oct - Dec Newsletter has been added. It is the last newsletter for the year and
it contains a lot of information. |

02/10/2008 We have a new newsletter
available to read. A lot of stuff has
been going on. Check out the info on Science
Week, and how, along with AIG we had a booth in this year’s Ekka. Some of our members have put in an amazing
effort into helping Queenslanders understand why geology is so important to
our State’s future. |

20/06/2008 The next meeting of the GSA will
also be our AGM. If you care about
your Society, please consider volunteering for a position on the
committee. An application can be found
in our latest Newsletter. |

12/04/2008 Due to circumstances beyond
our control the AGM planned for the 16th of April has been moved
to June, and the talk for this month has been moved to the 30th of
April and a new speaker has been arranged.

18/02/2008 We
are hoping to start the new year with two talks that have been rescheduled to
February and March of 2008. In the
recent GSAQ committee meeting the present members decided to do away with the
entry fees for the seminars for 2008.
This trial will be reviewed at the end of this year. So all seminars are free for all – hopefully this will spark some
additional interest – we will endeavour to maintain the same type of catering

several others have now completed the total revision of the Rocks and
Landscapes of the Sunshine Coast and have expanded it to include the Gympie

15/04/2007 The Newsletter for April/May 2007
is now available. Click here to

approaching the next AGM. We know
everybody is busy, but our Society is best served by a committee that is a
mix of Industry, Academia and Government geologists. Please consider printing out the
Application Form in the newsletter and nominating yourself for a position. Also, the GSA & AIG are
organising a field excursion around the southern Queensland area, including
visits to the Cracow and Mount Rawdon mines.

News has reached the Qld Division of the GSA of
Chris Powell's untimely death. As you are probably aware Chris was a UQ
graduate before completing his PhD supervised by Prof. Sam Carey. A
specialist in structural geology, he was Director of the Tectonics Special
Research Centre and one of the leading researchers into the origin and
configuration of Rodinia. Chris collapsed on a flight from Johannesberg to
London on Saturday 21 July, and could not be revived. The cause of death is
as yet unknown. Chris was a relatively fit 58 years old. A memorial was held
